About Emily Carmen
Emily Carmen, also known as The Em C, is a trailblazing songwriter and electric violinist dedicated to empowering the chronic illness and disability community in the music and entertainment industry. After years of grappling with an undiagnosed severe chronic illness, Emily found solace in songwriting, transforming her struggles into art that resonates with others facing similar challenges.
Graduating summa cum laude from SUNY Purchase with a degree in audio engineering, Emily completed her studies in just two years. During her time there, she honed her skills by collaborating with notable award winning film composers like Ira Newborn (known for Ace Ventura and the Naked Gun series), Steve Sandberg (composer of the hit televisons show Dora The Explorer) and Sonny Kompanek (orchestrator for The Coen Brothers). After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film music, writing string arrangements for major world reknown Grammy winning artists like Macy Gray and performing as an electric violinist for artists produced by Grammy award winning producer, Jared Lee Gosslin.
Returning to New York, Emily realized she wanted to share her own voice instead of hiding behind other artists. Witnessing the lack of representation for the chronic illness and disability community in the music and entertainment industry fueled her determination to become a visible artist and advocate.
Her upcoming EP, "Miss Diagnosis," features songs that reflect her journey, including the first single, "1950s Housewife." This release includes inclusive music videos, including an ASL interpretation and audio description versions, showcasing her commitment to accessibility and awareness.
