Emily Carmen

The Em C

Emily Carmen is a songwriter, electric violinist, and recording artist dedicated to representing and empowering the chronic illness and disability community in the music and entertainment industry. Her sound, characterized by her signature electric violin, sets Emily Carmen apart from other artists, adding a unique dimension to her music. Known for her unique blend of punk rock, grunge, and alternative rock, Emily draws comparisons to iconic '80s and '90s bands such as Veruca Salt, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Tracy Bonham, Pat Benatar and Nirvana.

Shaped by her experiences living with a debilitating chronic illness, Emily Carmen has a style of songwriting that serves as both as a personal outlet and a voice for those facing similar life altering challenges and obstacles. Her catchy melodies often embody the resilience required of many individuals, in particularly those with chronic illnesses and disabilities, who frequently feel they must put on a brave face while grappling with their harsh realities. While her music may sound upbeat and light hearted, Emily Carmen composes lyrics that delve into the struggles and determination that lie beneath the surface, revealing stories of hardship and the constant battle to overcome obstacles.

Through her heartfelt lyrics and memorable hooks, Emily aims to foster a sense of connection and healing for anyone who has ever felt alone or marginalized. By sharing her journey, Emily Carmen shines a light on the power within everyone facing immense challenges and invites listeners to embrace their own stories of resilience.

Hear what Bad Wolf Records has to say about Emily Carmen and her most recent release HEY!

"From a technical standpoint, one of the aspects that stands out magnificently is the use of her electric violin, which takes the place of the lead guitar in what would be a classic rock band setup. With this unique instrument, Emily executes spectacular melodic lines that could easily be mistaken for a guitar, skillfully incorporating a distortion effect that, along with her polished performance, delivers one of the most remarkable solos in modern rock history.

While “HEY!” does not refer to any specific health condition, just like “1950s Housewife,” it is precisely this quality that makes it an innovative work. Emily's music shows us that, regardless of our individual circumstances, we all face our own internal struggles. More specifically, in the case of “HEY!”, we have all experienced the sorrow of a broken heart at some point. That is what true inclusion means: not that one that segments people by their condition, but rather the kind that demonstrates that, no matter who we are, we all have internal challenges to overcome. This allows Emily's music to resonate not only with a specific community but to have a universal impact."

DESERT ISLAND CLOUD

“Songwriting and recording my song ideas were the one bit of normalcy I had during a near decade of constant debilitating symptoms of my chronic illness and being forgotten by nearly all of my friends. I used songwriting as a way to heal emotionally and songs became my therapy. I decided to use it as an outlet not only for myself, but for anyone with a chronic illness, disability or any sort of life altering obstacles that has ever felt alone and forgotten.”
